Leveraging Blockchain Technology to Enhance Transparency and Prevent Corruption in Nigeria’s Electoral Processes

Abstract
The problem of transparency and corruption in the electoral processes in Nigeria is a critical issue that has hampered the confidence of people in the democracy system. This paper aims to present a prototype of an electoral system based on blockchain which is dedicated to voter authentication and result collation automation. The system combines a permissioned blockchain, smart contracts, and cryptographic tools- Pedersen commitments and zero-knowledge proofs- to offer immutable, verifiable, and tamper-proof election procedures. The system, which is implemented in Python, is a combination of user-friendly interface and decentralized ledger infrastructure that will guarantee security, transparency, and efficiency. Experiments in simulation were carried out with 1,000 voters to test the performance of the system under realistic conditions.
